Goodbye Nerja NADFAS , Hello The Arts Society Nerja !

In May 2017 The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies rebranded its name and image after 50 years to more reflect the changes in the activities and scope of the Society and the Society ’ s Vision : “ The belief that the Arts have the potential to enrich peoples ’ lives is at the heart of everything we do . We want to be the most inclusive and influential Arts Society ”. The Arts Society Nerja itself is approaching its 25 Anniversary and there will be a number of events and exhibitions to celebrate this over the next 18 months . average speed of 98.53 mph which didn ' t allow them any time for pit stops or culture .

In 1965 Patricia Fay founded an Antiques Group in the Chilterns and as the Group expanded rapidly she formed the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies in 1968 . In the 1970s NADFAS became a Registered Charity and underwent a period of rapid expansion with the creation of many new Societies across the UK , and the launch of key initiatives such as Church Recording and Young Arts and Heritage Volunteering .
For her inspiration and vision Patricia Fay ( who had an untimely death at only 46 years old ) received an OBE in 1975 . Today The Arts Society is a leading Arts Education Charity with a global network of 385 local Societies in the UK , Europe and Australasia , which brings people together through a shared curiosity for all aspects of the Arts . There are 90,000 plus members worldwide .
The Arts Society ’ s strength is its members , joined together by a passion for the Arts which can nourish and empower us all and it would not be where it is today without the dedication and the enthusiasm of the volunteers who work tirelessly on the committees that run the local societies and support the Arts in all it many forms .
The Arts Society Nerja continues to meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the Cultural Centre Nerja from October to May where members can hear expert , accredited lecturers who share their specialist knowledge about the Arts .
The Society also organises Arts and Cultural day tours throughout Andalucía and five day tours further afield to advance members knowledge and understanding of the heritage of Spain . Visitors to the area are more than welcome to attend the lectures for a fee of € 10 (€ 5 for other The Arts Society members from around the world ).
