Stolen Artefacts - The ongoing looting of ancient cultural
heritage, a fully illustrated morning member’s talk by Hans
Kuitert on Tuesday, 22 November at 12 noon at the Museum of
Nerja, Plaza España, Nerja.
After the illegimate
trade in weapons and
drugs, stolen art is the
third largest pillar of
the black market.
Museum warehouses
in Egypt and
elsewhere are looted
on demand. Wars,
revolutions and
Salafistic Islamic
ideology literally flattens what has survived for centuries. Iraq
lost large parts of its Mesopotamian richness, not only because
of the war but also because of wide scale robbery of its
museums and the ensuing illegal trade.
The Hands of Leonardo da Vinci, a fully illustrated lecture by
Guy Rooker sponsored by Ole Optica on Tuesday November
12, at 6pm at the Cultural Centre, c/ Granada, Nerja.
The talk reviews the way in which Leonardo da Vinci
investigated the form
and function of the
hand. His paintings
and narrative art are
reviewed to
demonstrate how he
used this knowledge
to depict the hand as
a form of expression.
Dr. Guy Rooker is a
retired surgeon with a
Hans Kuitert has worked as a journalist for 42 years,
specializing in Islam and political affairs in the Middle East,
Central Asia and the Subcontinent. During the last ten years of
his career, he was commentator on religious affairs at his
newspaper De Telegraaf, Amsterdam.
