CAS Holiday Dinner Dance 2017 Cup for the Non Pedigree Best in Show. Eat, drink, and make merry! Start the holiday season in style by joining the Costa Animal Society (CAS) at their annual Ball on December 1 at the Caves restaurant in Maro. Delicious food, great raffle prizes and a festive atmosphere ensure the night will be, in the words of Woody Allen, “the most fun you can have with your clothes on”. Another wonderful choice of the judges was awarding the John Peatey Memorial Cup for Best Rescue dog or bitch to Coco, a Galgo (Spanish Greyhound). Galgos in Spain John Peatey Memorial Cup, Coco suffer unspeakable horrors due to their docile nature, great speed and unfortunately great use to hunters. We encourage everyone to read up on the plight of the Galgos and see what action they can take to raise awareness on this issue. A special thanks goes out to Jorge and Jacky of the Nerja Foreigners Department for all of their help and support. All of the tables and chairs were set up and taken down again, electricity arranged for and especially we express our gratitude for use of the square which was still covered by the Feria pavilion, making what would have been a very hot day for handlers and dogs, a cool and comfortable one. Also, a big thank you to our main sponsor Veterinary Clinic San Fernando whose support for CAS runs all the year round. And we are extremely pleased to announce the return of Mark Connor who wowed the crowd last year with his repertoire of hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s. The able danced while the rest tapped their canes to the infectious rhythms of The Righteous Brothers, Elvis, Marvin Gaye, ABBA and many more of your favourite performers. It is a great show with back-up singers, costume changes and excellent lighting. For bookings contact Vera on 95 252 9670 or call in at the CAS shop in Nerja, No. 2 Avda Castilla Perez, from Monday to Saturday 10am til 2pm. All told, CAS raised an amazing €2,588 on the day, a great success. Of course, all money raised at Scruffs goes directly to aiding our rescue animals, primarily to cover vet bills and kennelling costs. Thank you also to whatever publication you are reading this in for their generous support. Punta Lara CAS Quiz CAS is pleased to present their next fundraising quiz hosted by Mark and the staff at Punta Lara Bar on November 17, at 7:30pm. All quizzers are welcome to a join in a fun filled evening which helps needy dogs and cats in our area. Food and drinks are available at the bar and advanced booking is recommended by calling Mark at 635 369 673. Hog Roast at Seacrest Kennels Kurt and Laura would like to thank everyone who helped organise their Annual Hog Roast event at Seacrest Kennels in aid of CAS. A special mention goes out to Cathy and Juan at the Coach and Horses for donating the salads and Kapt’n Krap for keeping the music fun and lively. This is always a fun filled evening and over €800 was raised and donated to CAS to help abandoned dogs and cats. Scruffs! CAS held its annual dog show, Scruffs, on October 14 at the Plaza de España in Nerja. This is always our favourite event of the year. We spend most of our time on the ugly side of rescuing animals, witnessing the worst of human behaviour, so it is a true pleasure to see 60 dogs obviously loved by their human companions and returning the love in kind in an atmosphere of camaraderie and communion. A case in point is Molly. Last year she was adopted at Scruffs, one of a family of puppies who were abandoned in a manner that defies belief. This year Molly returned to Scruffs with her owner Katrina and she captured The Jackie Memorial Happy Tails Flash and Alfie finally passed their second rabies titer tests. Flash flew to her new forever home in Norway on October 11 while Alfie went to his new family in Oslo on October 19. Tiny Tim was rescued from a busy campo road hiding under a car, trying to steal cat food left out for a couple of street cats. He was only 10 weeks old and had clearly been dumped in a place where someone hoped he would be found. With the number of cars passing by it was 1st non pedigree bitch - Molly with Katrina 52 Flash
