Spain ’ s National Day last month was marred by the death of a pilot when one of the four Eurofighters which flew in the aerial display crashed as it returned to Albacete . Conditions were reported to be good in the area of the Los Llanos Air Base and an investigation into the incident was immediately opened . Witnesses say the four fighter jets were seen approaching the area at low altitude when one suddenly plunged to the ground and burst into flames . The pilot , 34-yearold Captain Borja Aybar Garcia , apparently did not have time to eject . He was married with a young son .

Work on Nerja ’ s unfinished water treatment plant is reported to have restarted , although the town hall says it has had no official notification . A meeting has been scheduled to assess the situation .
The project should have been in its testing phase by the spring of this year , but was delayed , then under threat and finally paralysed by the impending bankruptcy of one of the major members of the construction consortium . It is now reported that the judicial authority handling the insolvency of Isolux Corsán , which accumulated debts of more than € 4,000 million , authorised the resumption of work in late September .
While the plant itself is 98 per cent ready , the infrastructure supporting it remains at just 80 per cent complete . Still to be constructed are collector pipes below some of Nerja ’ s busiest streets , as well as a pumping station in the area of Burriana beach which will pump the collected waste from sea level up to the plant on the N-340 road to the east of the town centre .
King later spoke to the Captain ’ s widow and the base commander to express his condolences and stressed , “ the courage and commitment of the Captain to the Armed Forces and to Spain .”
The four fighters were amongst 78 aircraft which took part in the traditional parade through Madrid to mark the country ’ s National Day . Spain has four more Eurofighter EF2000s at the Morón de la Frontera base in Sevilla where two others crashed in 2010 and 2014 with the loss of two lives .
Meanwhile , a member of the left-wing Catalan Republican party has been suspended after demanding alcohol controls for pilots . He is amongst three people identified by National Police who have made offensive remarks about the Eurofighter crash on Twitter .

The plant has been designed to treat 25,000 cubic metres of waste water a day , enough to serve a population of 125,000 . However , construction , which began in 2014 with an completion date set for mid-2016 , remained more or less at a standstill throughout last year . It is now expected that testing will begin in spring 2018 .
