SmallTalk Burns night The Royal British Legion, Nerja welcome you to Hudsons in Torrox Costa to celebrate Burns Night on Friday January 24 at 7pm for 7.30pm. On offer will be a traditional Burns Supper with a Scottish Piper to pipe in the Haggis. The menu includes Cock-a-leekie Soup, Haggis, Neaps and Tatties and Cranachan. There will be wine and whiskey on the tables. Throughout the evening there will be a number of verses and poems read by nominated guests. This will be a great fun night with music and sing-along. Art at the dentist DentaDanés Dental Practice in Maro will be displaying some of Margaret Riordan’s artwork in their clinic in January and February. Worth popping in with whom we have a very good working relationship and help small rescue groups throughout Spain. We have a great team of volunteers and one of our colleagues lives in the UK so we have an extensive network. It’s challenging but when it works, the rewards far outweigh the heartache - that’s why we do it! Pier project The regional government is studying plans to build a pier at Torre del Mar. The present design is for a five-metre wide walkway stretching 65 metres out from the coast, with a 10-metre-wide lookout area at the end. The construction project was first revealed two years ago, since when its designers have been working with the Costas department to make it a reality. Move It To Music! From 11th January to 29th February (inclusive) there’s a choice of start times at Nerja's Millenium Wellness Center in Pasaje Milenio 3 (just off the far entrance to Nerja's Carabeo car park): 9:30am and 11am on Saturdays (NB: 11am only on 4th January). Easy-to- follow low-impact moves set to popular spirit-lifting tunes. Optional chat over coffee afterwards. Bring water and a towel, wear trainers and stretchy clothing. Beginners welcome. There were plenty of opportunities to purchase Christmas gifts, books, clothes, art and craft, jewellery and photos. There was a chance to guess how many petals there were on the beautiful orchid, which was won by Joan Hodgson. Lux Mundi would like to thank all the helpers and friends for their time and generosity and the sum of €914 was raised, which enables them to continue with their charitable work. They look forward to meeting you all again at their future events and excursions. Fashion success! Recently Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar held their Autumn and Winter Fashion Show at the Centre organised by Julie and a team of helpers. On arrival the 100 International friends were shown 85 outfits of new and nearly new clothes Defibrillators ordered Vélez-Málaga has contracted the supply and maintenance of 60 defibrillators to be installed around the municipality at a cost of €170,000. The work includes raising public awareness of the devices and organising teaching sessions. In 2017, Vélez-Málaga became the first town in Spain to install defibrillators in over 20 of its schools and nurseries. New Charity shop and accessories. The outfits were modelled by eight international friends of the Centre. The show, set to music, was compered by Rob Bell. Karen from Oasis came to style the models hair and the photographer was Laura Harrison. During the interval, the audience enjoyed drinks and homemade cakes. A new charity shop has opened - Pippa’s Pawprints - Calle Antonio Jimenez No. 4b. Located behind the bus station and the Notary. They stock cards, bric-a- brac, shoes, bags and quality clothes at knock-down-prices. Now open 10.30- 2pm Tuesday to Saturday. Pippa’s Pawprints Spanish Dog Rescue is a non profit making organisation. We raise money to rescue, nurture and re-home dogs who have been abandoned and abused. We also support local rescues They are pleased to inform you that as a result of your generosity the show made the amount of €1758 which will enable Lux Mundi to continue with its charity work and due to its success the Centre is already planning their Spring & Summer show in May 2020, which you are all welcome to attend.
