Bather rescued
Emergency services in Málaga were
called to the mouth of the Guadalhorce
river last month where a bather was seen
to be in trouble. Witnesses raised the
alarm when he was spotted apparently
unable to return to the shore. He was
rescued by the crew of a Red Cross
launch and then taken to hospital
suffering from severe hypothermia.
Family death
Police in Granada say a 39-year-old man
with reduced mental faculties called 092
last month advising he was about to
commit suicide. When officers arrived at
his home in the city, they found the
body of his 78-year-old mother on the
floor. Investigators say there were no
signs of violence and she is believed to
have died two days earlier from natural
causes.
City fire
A short-circuit is believed to have

Fire crews were on the scene quickly
and extinguished the blaze on the first
floor. However, the area then had to be
ventilated as large amounts of smoke
had been generated.

The EU has agreed to add the Montes de

requested its inclusion in Sites of

become part of Natura 2000, an
ecological network of the EU’s
conservation and protected areas.
Teenage custody
A 14-year-old has been ordered to be
held in precautionary custody by a
Granada court after he attacked his
mother with a knife. The Minors
Prosecutor said the boy played on-line
games for hours but when a breakdown
caused a loss of his connection to the
internet, he asked his mother to repair it.
When she could not, he attacked her.
Green investment
Málaga is to invest €4.3 million in the
city’s green zones. Plans include play
areas for children, paving of terraced
areas and other improvements. The La
Concepción botanical garden will benefit
from the installation of solar panels and
upgrades to its sanitation systems.
