Seasons Greetings! size and an unfortunate name, which is why we are now calling him Buddy. He is about five years old and gets along well with other dogs but he cannot live with cats. Buddy has lived in a house before so he is house trained and loves being with people. With 2019 coming to an end the Costa Animal Society (CAS) would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the animal lovers out there who have supported us this year in a variety of ways. From our members to those who drop coins in our tins around town, every penny counts. To those who visit our shop or attend our events, you are a great source of encouragement. Thank you also to our friends at the kennels and the veterinary clinics who care for the animals in our charge with great compassion and with our complete confidence. If you would like to meet one of the animals under CAS’ care and are looking to adopt or are willing to foster a pet please contact Kurt and Laura at 95 252 Buddy 1426 or Fiona through the CAS website www.casnerja.webs.com, or Facebook page \casnerja. We would also like to thank those local businesses who donate to our events, host our quizzes and especially to our friends in the media who provide us space pro bono to help us get our message across. Punta Lara CAS Quiz Of course thank you to all of our volunteers: those in the shop, the fosterers, the flying partners and airport runners and all of my comrades on the CAS committee. Every year is a challenge, but we can assure you we do the best that we can with the resources that we have. CAS and the elves at the Punta Lara Bar will be celebrating the holidays with their annual Christmas quiz on Friday 20th December at 7.30pm. Come and join quiz hostess Laura for a fun evening of holiday cheer and there will be a prize for the best Christmas jumper. Food and drinks are available at the bar and advanced booking is recommended by calling Mark at 635 369 673. And most importantly thank you to everyone who has adopted an animal from CAS. It is always a joy to place a homeless animal in a loving home. CAS Cat Report Over the past few years CAS has worked with local volunteers to build up a successful Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR) program for the street cats in our area and in 2019 over 100 cats were helped. Sterilising feral cats and giving them vet treatment improves the overall look and health of animals in our community and in the process not only limits the number of unwanted kittens but also reduces the cases of feline diseases. Happy holidays to one and all, we’ll see you in 2020. Available for adoption! Evie was found in March on the streets of Nerja and brought to a local vet surgery with a good-size dog bite on her face and neck when she was just a three month-old pup. CAS found a foster home for Evie with a retired lady where she recovered from her injury and learned to live in a house with other dogs and cats. CAS budgets €500 a month to help feral and abandoned cats, which amounts to €6.000 towards this effort each year. In addition a hard-working cat person in Nerja matches a significant portion of this budget with her own money raising the TNR program spending well into five figures over the past few years. Over the summer Evie grew very quickly and being a large pup with lots of energy she became too much for her fosterer to manage so she has been moved into kennels. Evie is now about a year old and as she Evie matures she is growing into a lovely natured, sweet dog that loves cuddles and gets along well with other dogs and cats. Coco the little black kitten was rescued by a lovely couple who were on holiday in Nerja back in September. The kitten was only about six weeks old when she was found at the Avalon in Punta Lara so she was barely weaned and too young to receive her vaccinations. The couple brought little Coco into their hotel room with the permission of the management where they Buddy has been cared for by CAS in kennels for nearly two years. He is a wonderful Alsatian cross male with such a loving personality who only wants to be part of a family again. We think he has been overlooked in the past because of his 48 Coco
