Local choir “CoraXalia” (Director: Eusebio Pita) has the pleasure of inviting you to two free Christmas concerts, one in the Arts Centre in Alcaucín on Friday December 7 at 8pm and one in the Church of San Isidro Labrador in Periana Saturday December 8 at 8pm. Food for Change held another fundraising spa day on November 3. Therapists donated their services, including: Reiki, Reconnective Healing, Thai massage, Energy Lines Massage, Lakota Card Reading, Natural Facelift, Reflexology and Lymphatic Drainage. A total of €660 was raised for Los Angeles de la Noche – the food kitchen in Little Gecko Art Exhibition Local artist Margaret Riordan has an art exhibition until end April 2019 at Bar Choto Playa on the N340 at Peñoncillo Beach, Torrox Costa, (Closed Tuesdays). (next to Ruta 340 motorcycles shop). Free entry, plenty of free parking. Margaret is a self-taught artist (retired secretary). She was born in Bristol, England, and has been painting and drawing all her life. She has entered many competitions with success at local and national level and over 400 of her works have been sold throughout the UK, Europe, North America & Australia. Nerja Players Nerja Players invite you to leave your worries on the doorstep and just direct your feet to the funny side of the street where The Two Bees (Burch & Brentley) and other Bs are presenting a night of comedy... funny that! Laughter really is the best medicine... The time is 7pm on December 4 and the venue is the premises of The Nerja Bridge Club, between Salon de Juegos and the Supermarket, at the top of c/ Castillo Perez 1. This will be a Comedy night with a Christmas spirit. 12 Nights of Christmas Raffle with proceeds to benefit ‘Taller de Amistad.’ Members: Free / Non-members: €3. Màlaga. The charity serves over 2,500 meals, daily (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and, as Christmas approaches, they plan to serve a special dinner on Christmas Eve, in a total of 30 Asadores around the city of Málaga. Thanks go to all who attended the spa day or made donations. Special thanks to Tracey of Centro Dharma for the use of the therapy centre. Tracey will be continuing her holistic work, running training courses at different locations, from the end of November. This takes the total raised by these spa days to more than €6,500. Cassie Shine (pictured) is volunteering to work with orphans and children affected by AIDS next summer in Mozambique and Swaziland. Cassie, from Coventry will be 16 in April and is a niece of Mary and Marc who live here in Nerja. She would like to thank Joe for hosting the event, also to the musicians who gave their time and talents for free; Joe himself, Niall, Mike, Bernie, Bill, Alberto and Alastair. Special thanks to Howie for guitar dueting with Cassie herself. Thanks also to Lucy, Millie, Mary G and Abel for behind the scenes and to all the local businesses who contributed so generously with raffle prizes; Buskers, Irish Annie’s, The Harp, The Beer Garden, Fitzgerald’s, Good Stuff and The Ship. Lastly, to each and everyone of 20 Little Gecko are holding a Christmas Fayre at El Zoco on Friday December 14 from 6pm. There will be handcraft stalls and each El Zoco business will sell some type of reasonably priced Christmas item. A choir will sing carols, a dancing group will perform, and they are having a donation stall, for blankets, coats and wrapped presents to be given to the homeless and needy in Nerja, (distributed by the Church). Finally, there will be a free wrapping stall run by some local children, plus some free or minimal charge fun things; Hoopla etc. Lastly, they have organised an Advent raffle and to date 39 businesses have confirmed their participation with an offer of a prize and more may join in. Prizes range from ‘Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps’, to a solicitors consultation, meals, drinks and a designer cake. Tickets are available from all participating businesses, so just ask your local bar if they are or go to Little Gecko to get yours! All funds raised by the Fayre and the raffle will go to Taller de Amistad. See their ad on page 38. New bar at El Zoco There is another new bar in the El Zoco commercial centre next to the sports ground by the old Supersol. Harveys, owned by Steven and Leeanne Motion from Edinburgh will be showing live sports including 3pm kick offs on Saturdays. They will be serving a range of snacks including a selection of Toasties and Baguettes. There will be a happy hour on Saturdays with Draught Fosters at €3 per pint and house wines at €1 per glass. Almijara Bowls Club On November 7, the Almijara Bowls Club held their Gala day which was sponsored by Liberty Seguros. 11 teams played 10, 5 end triples matches and there were many close results. The overall winners were Graham Williams, Nigel Locke and Marion Talbot.
