Torrox plans its coastal pathway

Plans have been drawn up for a section of the future Málaga Coastal Path along the coastline of Torrox . Last month , proposals for four related projects were presented by the provincial government to the municipality for consideration . The path will cover 3.5 kilometres between the Jardines del Mar urbanisation and the border between Torrox and Nerja . Municipal officials are now studying the plans which must receive approval from the Costas department and the regional government before work starts . Construction will include safety measures including high containment barriers where the pathway passes along the foot of cliffs .
The first stretch of one kilometre will be a pathway running east from the Jardines del Mar urbanisation to the Barranco del Agua . The next 1.5 kilometres will reach Calaceite beach and include a lookout point at Peñoncillo . A further 757 metres will reach La Restinga restaurant and the final 253 metres will reach the border with Nerja . The path will vary in width up to a maximum of two metres ,
The prosecutor investing how an illegal rubbish dump in Nerja was allowed to grow unchecked for almost 16 years has excluded about half of the 40 suspects initially named . The probe into the dump at Rio de la Miel began following a complaint in May 2016 and led to an investigation by a Torrox court after which the Junta de Andalucía initiated disciplinary proceedings against the municipality .
During years of uncontrolled use , construction and demolition debris including hazardous waste , plus garden cuttings and plastic were dumped there . Over 40 people , including business owners and public officials , were under investigation by the Torrox court for possible offences including crimes against the environment , forgery , fraud and membership of a criminal group , plus negligent

At its western end , the coastal pathway will link to the 30-metre bridge over the River Güí which opened in May , leading walkers into the municipality of Vélez-Málaga .
The path through Torrox is part of the Senda Litoral de Málaga ( Malaga Coastal Path ), a 184 kilometre pathway for walkers and cyclists following the entire coast of Málaga province , from the Balcón de Europa in Nerja westwards to Castillo de la Duquesa in Manilva . Work began in 2014 , and , once completed in 2021 , the longdistance route will be a major tourist attraction for the Costa del Sol .

environmental and administrative deception .
Last month , the office of Málaga ’ s provincial prosecutor told the investigating court that it was proposing to drop further investigation into a number of business owners as well as three former Partido Popular councillors in Nerja - Jonathan Méndez , José Alberto Tomé and Antonio Garcia – and the PSOE councillor for infrastructure José María Rivas . The territorial delegate for the Environment , Adolfo Moreno , is also to be excluded .
However , former Nerja mayor José Alberto Armijo of the PP and the present mayor Rosa Arrabal of the PSOE remain in the prosecutor ’ s sights , along with a number of others including seven business leaders .
