Book Talk
with Smiffs book & card store, Nerja
A cornucopia of crime spills
forth in our round-up of new
books this month. In the
novel The Cutting Edge (l),
the latest Lincoln Rhyme
thriller from Jeffery Deaver,
William and Anna go to
collect her engagement ring
but are murdered along with
the diamond cutter by ‘the
Promisor’. It is the first in a
series of macabre attacks
targeting couples just starting
out together. Rhyme and
Amelia Sachs, newly married
themselves, are on the case;
but the killer is hunting down
witnesses. Rhyme and Sachs
need all their own skills and
determination to break The Promisor’s vow of destruction.
investigation simply to keep
him away from real police
work. He turns to
psychologist Freyja to help
understand the child who hid
the message. Soon, they find
themselves at the heart of
another shocking case. The
discovery of the letter
coincides with a string of
macabre events: body parts
found in a garden, followed
by the murder of the man
who owned the house.
Sarah J Harris debuts with
The Colour Of Bee
Larkham’s Murder (l), which
is creating a bit of a stir in
publishing circles. It is being compared to previous offbeat,
surprise bestsellers: Mark
Haddon’s The Curious
Incident Of The Dog In The
Night, and My Name Is Leon,
by Kit de Waal.
The Cutting Edge leads off this month’s Soltalk Hotlist of titles,
some entirely new, others moving into small paperback format
for the first time or being reissued, sometimes after years out
of print. All are due for publication on dates in May,
