came along to enjoy the terrific entertainment and meet the faces behind many of Nerja ’ s clubs and associations . Thanks to everyone who organised the day so efficiently and especially Jacky from the Town Hall Foreigner ’ s Department . Thanks also to the many of you who visited our stand and for the great feedback you gave us . See you again next year !
Buena Vista Petanca
Last month the Buena Vista Petanca Group held a Fox and Hounds competition at Torrox Park , organised by Keith Bourne and Martin Cook . The
winner was Fred Bamynek with eight wins and 18 points . Runner up was Son Nguyen with seven wins . First lady was Emerita Basham with six wins . Thanks to all the competitors and organisers .
Nerja Players
On March 6 , the Nerja Players presented a dramatized reading of ‘ Wives and Lovers ’, an ambitious re-creation of an English Restoration comedy , ‘ The Country Wife ’ by William Wycherley , originally produced in 1675 . This version cleverly updated the original to 1921 , utilizing the recently ended devastating World War and the early successes of the Suffragette Movement to motivate and underpin the plot . This ambitious

production , with a cast of 12 and 11 scenes , performed in the Nerja Bridge Club , featured the jazz music of the period throughout and set the tone with projections of the liberating and vibrant dancing of those times and ended with the entire cast dancing ‘ The Charleston .’
And at the final meeting of the season members of The Nerja Players and guests celebrated their 30th Anniversary with a special presentation tracing their history from the early days of recording plays for radio , through stage
productions in the Casa de Cultura to performing fortnightly Rehearsed Readings . Members performed the first ever play to be broadcast ‘ Sorry Wrong Number ’ and readings from early theatre performances . The new season begins on October 16 with a cold reading of the comedy Boeing Boeing . If you are interested in the theatre and would like to take part do come along and join in .
Royal British Legion
The concert the Royal British Legion ( RBL ), Nerja Branch had hoped to hold in the Caves Restaurant at the end of April ( Soltalk April 2018 ) had to reluctantly be cancelled due to poor ticket sales . As their aim is to raise money they cannot hold functions which run at a loss . They would like to
apologise to anyone who had hoped to go and were disappointed . It was also disappointing for the Coralaxia Choir and their musical director , who had put in hours of practice for the event .
On a happier note the Nerja Residents Day was a great success for the RBL due to the sterling efforts of Dorothy Allen ( their Poppy Appeal Co-ordinator ) and they raised € 400 . They wish to thank everyone who came along and supported them and those who donated items for their tombola .
On June 30 , they will be having their annual Armed Forces Day lunch which will be attended by Major Del Hamilton from the Personnel Recovery Centre in Edinburgh which RBL support . He will bring everyone up to date with what is happening there and how contributions are being used . If you are interested in coming to this lunch or any other , please contact Vera on ; 95 296 7200 or email : ozzybaldwin @ yahoo . co . uk . Please note you do not have to be ex-military , or currently serving , you do not have to be British , you do not have to wear black tie ( or any other accoutrements ) just come and join them . They will endeavour to make sure you enjoy the experience .
Goodbye Adrian
On March 19 , Adrian Kenneth Elrick , lost the battle against pancreatic cancer , almost exactly six months after he saw a
doctor about yellowing eyes . He leaves behind his wife Adele , formerly known as “ the Crazy Cow ”, two daughters , six grandchildren and lots of friends here in Nerja . Adrian came to Nerja almost 30 years ago and has run restaurants and bars before he decided to go back to his real profession , blacksmithing ! He has left behind a great legacy of gates , grills , staircases and other metal work . He was well respected and was the man to ask ! Always a smile . We will miss seeing him drive his green Landrover around town . Rest in peace , Adrian .
