Welcome to Tito’s A new restaurant opens this month opposite the Hotel Monica on Avda Mediterraneo. It’s being run by husband and wife team Fran and Nicky, and Sebas. Fran previously worked in the Round Bar, La Fonda and La Capilla del Mar amongst others so many of you will recognise him from there whilst Sebas worked for many years in a high quality Nerja restaurant and is well known and respected in the industry. Front of house will be Nicky who you might know from her work in estate agents here in Nerja. The restaurant will open for breakfast, lunch, snacks and a full international evening menu serving quality home cooked food at great prices. Or just sit on their sunny terrace and enjoy a coffee or a drink. And especially for you Soltalk readers, their opening offer is a free bottle of house wine with any two evening meals after 6pm when you mention this magazine! Wow. We wish them all the best with their new venture. For more information see their ad on page 30. Reading it was comparable to hacking through an overgrown jungle filled with archaic and very smutty language; in its original form it could not have been presented by the Players. However, I found it very humorous and intricately plotted with three story lines: a rake uses a fake injury to insinuate himself into noble society; a jealous husband tries to cocoon his vivacious country wife; and a mature, intelligent woman must be dissuaded from entering into a doomed marriage. Like a comic strip light bulb flashing over my head, I decided to re-write the play in more Ladies Pairs competition, January 31. This year we had a league of five teams. The day started a bit chilly with the wind Dave Trippas presenting the Trophy to Pauline Trippas and Marion Talbot causing a little impact on the bowling, and also reduced the ambient temperature somewhat! An enjoyable day nonetheless, with excellent bowling all round. The overall winners were Marion Talbot and Pauline Trippas, who wrapped up the win with one round to spare. accessible and less offensive language and updating it. But what period? I chose the early 1920s because many of the same social strictures still prevailed although it was an age bursting with new freedom - the Jazz Era - and the UK had just come out of winning a devastating war. I re- titled the play ‘Wives and Lovers’ because that summarized the play far better than its original title.” The venue as usual is at the Nerja Bridge Club premises, Avda Castilla Perez 1, Nerja. Look for the blue doors between Salon de Juegos and Nerja Realty office. Trumps Bridge Club’s Annual Tournament was held on February 11 at the Caves Restaurant in Maro followed by dinner. 16 tables split into two sections (red and blue) played identical boards. Winners of the Red Section were Nan Cowie and Bob Mitchell. Overall winners who were presented with The David Leake Trophy by Sue Moulden were Marion Talbot and Sue Cobley (pictured). The vote of thanks Almijara Bowls three ladies could want, pots of tea, pretty teacups and saucers and a three layered cake stand packed with finger sandwiches, vol au vents, scones and cakes, all home made of course. The Nerja Players Sacred music presents ‘Wives and Lovers’ adapted from ‘Country Wife’ by William Wycherley, directed Marty Margulies on March 6, at 7pm. Marty Margulies expains the story behind it: “Back in September I received an email from Trish Hall, then Players Membership Secretary, now leading lady, praising an obscure Restoration comedy, ‘The Country Wife’ by William Wycherley, she had just seen performed in the UK in full 1675 costuming. Coincidentally, I had just acquired a book of Restoration comedies and this play There are two musical events of notes at the Casa de Cultura ‘Casa del Apero’ Frigiliana this month, both will be €15 per ticket.
