Smalltalk Comic Relief Night Happy “Annie”versary A night of hilarity and fund raising was held at Chapel Bar on Friday March 24, in aid of Nerja Solidaria (Nerja food bank). The food bank is located just behind the Taxi Rank in Calle San Miguel. They are grateful of any cash or non-perishable food donations. They give out food packs to help the many registered families that are living on the breadline. Can you believe this lovely bar is 15 years old this month? It seems like only yesterday that Ann took it over. Of course they will be having a party to celebrate this milestone and you are invited to come and join the celebrations on Wednesday, June 14. There will be an Adult Treasure Hunt (with drinks as prizes) from 8-9.30pm and live music with Paul & Friends from 9.30pm- midnight. There will be free tapas and spot prizes throughout the night. Don’t miss it, for anyone who doesn’t know where it is, see the advertisement on the previous page. Mad Hatter’s cakes Have you tried Mad Hatter’s Tea Room and cake shop yet? It’s at Calle Jaen 4a, Nerja and Ria, its proprietor, does some yummy cakes to have with your tea or coffee, plus other homemade delights such as quiche and sandwiches. But if you have a special occasion coming up, she can make you an amazing cake - just have a look at this! You can contact Ria on 618 659 000 or call into the Tea Room between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday. A massive 1500€ was raised on the night. Ian from the Chapel would like to say a big thank you to everyone that donated or took part in the event. But special thanks must go to Chrissie (sponsored makeover with the help of Donna and Friends) Stuart and Nick (sponsored head shave) Lenny for volunteering for a body wax where wax strips were sold on the night OUCH! and Mog for his expert compering. As well as the above there was a Greg’s custard pie challenge, a bubble gum blowing competition (well done Darcy) and an open mic for any Britain’s got Talent hopefuls (good effort Thomas) as well as the auction of a painting donated by Inger - Lisa. Burglary Burglary is a bad enough crime to be the victim of, but when a charity shop is the target it just really makes you wonder about what sort of people could do it! Popapecunia, the charity shop in aid of the Love a Child Foundation, has been burgled again last month. It happened already five years previously. Then the burglars took €100, this time there was not much money, only around €10, but, they took new watches, clothes, shoes and damaged a lot including the doors and windows. Luckily a knight in shining armour, otherwise known as Ted, repaired everything for free or it would have been expensive. They could probably do with your kind donations even more at the moment so please see their contact details on page 57. Nerja roads - closed! Have you tried driving around town in in the last few weeks? It seems that more than half of the roads are closed to be dug up or blocked off. The one that is really causing headaches is the bridge between Supersol and El Puente bar 23 which they say will be closed for at least a month (it is still open to pedestrians though). Also closed are Calle Angustias and the part of Antonio Millon where Vinoleto and Fitzgerald’s are. I do wonder why all these improvements are being done at such a busy time of the year, but the answer will usually be something to do with spending the money when it is available. Anyway let’s hope it all gets back to normal soon. GAA comes to Potters Potters bar in Nerja (opposite Hotel Villa Flamenca) have now included GAA sports coverage amongst the range of sports events shown. There will be Hurling and Football matches and of course to add to the atmosphere Guinness is now available on draught. The weekly quiz continues on Tuesday nights hosted by Dave Jamieson which is very popular so booking is essential. Saturdays will now see a BBQ night on the super new terrace with happy hour drinks from 4pm to 7pm. Now open from 4pm daily with happy hour prices until 7pm and complimentary tapas available. Friday nights continue to be popular with superb Fish & Chips available and an evening of great entertainment hosted by Paul Lockey.
