for treatment to a four centimetre
deep wound to his side, while National
Police arrested the perpetrator.

Family kept dead
mother’s body
Family members of a 77-year-old
woman whose decomposing body was
found covered in blankets in her home
last month are under investigation. A
court has decided to open proceedings
for possible offences of murder,
without specifying the grade, as well as
abuse and fraud.
While toxicology and other post-
mortem results are still awaited, police
believe that the woman may have been
dead for up to a month before her
body was discovered. She lived in the
La Paz district of the city with two sons
and a daughter whose reasons for not
making known her death are the
subject of the investigation. It was not
A 44-year-old man has been arrested
for allegedly throwing a Molotov
cocktail at the image of a saint in the
San Franciso convent (pictured) in
Vélez-Málaga last last month. It did
not detonate but damaged the 17th
century religious symbol, while a
search of his home in Torre del Mar
found a second weapon of similar
characteristics. Police believe the
suspect is suffering from mental
problems.
Security group
A working group has been set up in
Málaga to determine the city’s security
requirements for Easter next year.
Last month, Mayor Francisco de la
Torre met representatives of local and
state security services, politicians and
representatives of the brotherhoods
who stage the annual processions. A
fight broke out amongst spectators
one night during this year’s Easter
Week causing a number of injuries.
Massive haul
Over 1,800 of the latest mobile phones
and items of computer equipment
have been stolen from a warehouse on
Málaga’s Guadalhorce industrial estate.
The retail value of the haul has been
estimated at over €1 million. Police
say the thieves broke in early on May
1 and would have required a lorry to
take away the volume of goods
missing.
until a third son who lives elsewhere
visited his mother on April 23 that
their actions were uncovered.
Police said the body was lying on a bed
covered by several blankets and that
the window was wide open which,
along with several air fresheners, was
interpreted as an attempt to disguise
the smell. The investigation is trying to
establish if the woman, who reportedly
suffered from dementia, had been
given adequate care or if the death was
undeclared so that her family could
continue drawing her state pension.
The three siblings testified in court last
month and the investigation is on-
going.
Drugs related beatings
in Salobreña
Police in Salobreña have rescued two
young men found beaten and tied to
chairs in a house in the Los Alminares
urbanisation. A Romanian national has
been arrested in connection with the
incident last month.
A Guardia Civil patrol was stopped by a
member of the public who said a
robbery was in progress nearby. When
the officers reached the address, they
found the door open and the two men
who had clearly received a brutal
beating. The pair were taken to
hospital in Motril where they were
treated for extensive injuries to the
face, body and head.
Before they left, however, a third
person jumped out of a window and
fled towards a parked car before being
caught and detained by the officers.
When the vehicle was searched, a box
containing 193 kilos of marijuana,
presumably stolen from the two
injured men, was found. The suspect, a
Romanian national, has been charged
with kidnapping, injury, illegal
possession of weapons and an offence
against public health.
However, the story does not end there

because the officers also searched the
house where the incident occurred and
found a cannabis cultivation including
four industrial air conditioning units
and carbon filters which completely
eradicate the smell of the drug. Almost
2,500 plants and cuttings were seized,
while the house is reported to have
been illegally connected to the public
electricity supply.
The two men who were tied up have
been renting the property since
November and have now been
detained themselves for an offence
against public health and another of
defrauding power provider Endesa.
Officers also found a firearm in the
property and believe that the cannabis
cultivation may have been part of a
larger gang operation. They also are
working on the theory that the
Romanian may not have been acting
alone because investigators say it
would difficult for a single individual
to attack and tie up two young men.
