Waggy Tails
personalities. Each dog was rescued
about a year ago by different, well-
meaning families who both love
animals to the extent that they each
have several dogs and a multitude
of cats.
Doris and Dobby were found by a group of Swedish
youngsters here to enjoy the Andalucian summer. As part of
this cultural experience they have
gained first-hand knowledge of
rescuing and re-homing dogs in Spain.
Doris and Dobby appeared one day at
their holiday rental in the campo and
made themselves right at home. The
Swedes could not keep them however
as they brought two large dogs of their
own so they contacted the Costa
Animal Society (CAS).
Almost immediately Dobby began
showing signs of illness and the
rescuers rushed him quickly to the vet
where he was diagnosed with
Parvovirus. He spent a week in
intensive care on an IV drip but he
turned out to be a fighter and pulled
through against all odds.
Unfortunately, after months of
living with the cats Jasper’s hunting
instinct took over and he killed two
of them in one day. Lump on the
other hand, who is quite laid back,
also lived peacefully with his
family’s cats for several months but
one day unexpectedly severely
injured one cat in a moment of out
of character rough play. Needless to
say, both families feel they cannot
trust the dogs to live with their cats
so they have asked CAS to help re-
home Jasper and Lump.

Jasper
Lump
Jasper is an outgoing, energetic
large Podenco with a gregarious
personality. He will require lots of
exercise and an owner with a strong
hand to train and manage him. He gets along great with other
playful dogs. Jasper is about one to two years old, fully
vaccinated, castrated and in fantastic condition.
Dobby was reunited with his mother Doris in early May at the
kennels where they are boarding in an isolation area until they
are given the all clear to mix with other dogs. Dobby has now
been reserved for a new home in Norway and should travel to
his new family in early July once he clears the strict travel
restrictions to this country. It is potentially good news for
Doris as well because a brother of one of the Swedes will be
visiting this month and he is looking to adopt a dog like her.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed.
Lump is a sweet, gentle giant who loves cuddles and gets along
with other dogs but cannot be left alone with cats. He is a three
to four years old medium/large Spanish Mastiff cross who
weighs about 40 kilos. He is fully vaccinated, castrated and is a
healthy dog.
Ready for Adoption
Dino is a young six month old,
small male pup that was owned
by a young Spanish lad who
lived with his brother in Nerja.
Due to financial pressures the
lad had to move back to his
parents’ home in Barcelona
leaving Dino with his older
brother. However, the brother
works in a restaurant ten hours
a day, six days a week and
found he did not have enough
time in the day to take care of a
Dino
young pup. Therefore, Dino is
now being housed in kennels
until a good forever home can be found for him where he will
live a long life as part of a family.

Featured Dogs of the Month: Jacob
and Jasmine
A Fosterer’s Tale from a CAS Committee Member:
After nearly a year of seeing two black dogs criss-crossing the
N-340 by La Herradura we were finally able to rescue them. It
took several months but at last they gained trust enough to
come close for food and a cuddle. The male dog, now Jacob,
had had enough of roughing it and jumped into my car. He
made the female jump in too. I looked on in awe. They chose
to be saved. They are fantastic dogs. So sweet and calm, they
almost certainly were someone’s pets. Had they been dumped?
Neither had chips but they were both sterilized, very strange.
Lump (feel free to rename him) and Jasper are being re-
homed for similar reasons but these two have very different
