Soltalk December 2018 | Page 8

Ho ho ho and welcome to the December issue of Soltalk. Christmas is nearly upon us! Santa is revving up his sleigh and the reindeer are raring to go! welcome and causes chaos. Even as close to home as the Nerja - Torrox coast road was badly affected when a large chunk of hilltop landed in the middle of the road, see News on page 9 for the details. Very frightening and extremely lucky that nobody was killed or injured. Talking of weather, I just read that the UK is in for its coldest winter in ten years but at least that could boost visitor numbers here in Andalucia! Payback for a great UK summer perhaps? We hope you’ll find plenty of festive treats in these pages, especially in our ‘Top things to do this month’ on page 22. Most appealing to me is the Medieval market being held in Rincón de la Victoria, it sounds fantastic. Closer to home there will be a Christmas Fayre at Little Gecko in El Zoco de Nerja, see Smalltalk on page 20 for details. Sotalk’s new look website is growing every month and is well worth a visit if you can’t always get hold of a copy of the magazine. It’s a great way to keep in touch with what’s going on here when you’re away, and a great source of information if you’re new to the area. Take a look on www.soltalk.com. We also keep in touch with readers via facebook - a great way to let you know about last minute events and special offers that were too late to get into print. So if you’re on Facebook please ‘like’ our page if you haven’t already done so! Thank you! There is a major milestone this month for local group The Arts Society Nerja, they are celebrating their 25th Anniversary. See details of that and their December lecture on page 24. If music is more your thing, there are two special evenings coming up with “Michael Bublé” and “The Rat Pack” tribute acts. See page 25 for details of date, venue and how to book your tickets. Once again De Cotta Law are sponsoring a Carol Service in Iglesia San Miguel (St Michael’s Church) in Nerja. Carols will be performed by the CoraXalia Choir and the service will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies. Funds raised will be donated to the Good Samaritan Residencia which cares for elderly people in Nerja. For details please see page 48. Well our next issue won’t be out until next year! So I would like to take a moment to wish you and all our readers, advertisers and contributors a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year from all of us here at Soltalk. Your continued support is very much appreciated and so are your suggestions for things you’d like to see in future issues. Please keep in touch - it’s easy via our website, facebook or email (addresses on page 3) we love to hear from you. Take care. Enjoy December and enjoy this issue. We have certainly been having some very inclement weather here in Spain, although luckily we seem to be filling up the reservoirs, it’s just the question of the amount we get at once that makes it not so SARAH BROOKES 6
