CAS Holiday Greetings
As the year comes to an end, the Costa Animal Society (CAS)
would like to express our gratitude to all of our family, friends
and volunteers who have made it possible for us to continue
doing the best we can for all the animals in need in Nerja and
its near environs.
From business sponsors to shop volunteers, from private
kennels to fosterers, and especially to the work of our
veterinarian partners, thank you. From those who take care of
the paperwork enabling us to send wonderful dogs to our sister
charities in Northern Europe and Scandinavia, to the
volunteers who drive them to the airport and to those who fly
with them, muchisimas gracias!

And, especially a huge thank you to our friends in the media
who very generously provide their valuable time and space
pro bono helping us to get the word out on the urgent and
serious issue of animal welfare. Your support is very much
appreciated.
Happy Tales
CAS is pleased to say that last month’s
write-up of Nina’s story directly resulted in
her finding a second home with a lovely
retired English couple. The couple read
about how Nina had been returned to CAS
as her owner had to move back to the UK
for medical treatment. Before Nina’s
second adoption, the prospective owners
were made aware of Nina’s attachment
Nina
issues and her need for a constant
companion. The couple have another
female Podenco and now Nina has settled in nicely with her
new sister Bella. Well done Les and Mae!
From all of us at CAS, we wish you happy holidays and all the
best in the coming year. Salud!
Punta Lara CAS Quiz
Join CAS in the holiday spirit at the Punta Lara Bar for their
Christmas quiz taking place on December 21 at 7.30pm. Fancy
dress is optional but thinking caps are required for this fun
filled event to raise money for the needy doggies and moggies
in our area. Food and drinks are available and advanced
booking is recommended by calling Mark at 635 369 673.
Ophelia is a small one-to-two year old
female Podenco who was rescued from
living rough in the campo by a kind-
hearted English lady. In a joint effort
between CAS and APA, the other animal
charity in Nerja, Ophelia was taken to the
vet for evaluation and vaccinations. It was
Ophelia
determined that the dog was a bit
undernourished so she was housed in
kennels by CAS where she was well-fed and pampered.
After a month she was spayed and APA then arranged for
Ophelia to go to a foster home in Germany. She left via
ground transport earlier this month.
Scruffs
Despite being rained out on
the scheduled day, the Costa
Animal Society’s annual dog
show Scruffs was held the
following Sunday beneath
sunny skies. With 15
categories to enter, by the
end of the day there were
many proud dogs and
handlers bedecked with
colourful rosettes and
sporting big smiles. CAS
would like to express our
sincere gratitude to all of the
business and private
sponsors whose generosity
helped to raise much needed
funds in aid of our homeless

canine and feline friends. A
special thank you goes out to
Jacky of the Nerja Foreign Residents Department for all of her
hard work and support.
Ready for Adoption
Simba has reached his first birthday
and to mark this milestone CAS had
him sterilized as are all CAS dogs and
cats. Simba has a friendly outgoing
personality and with maturity plus
lower hormone levels and proper
training he will make a lovely pet. He
really enjoys being around people and
gets along well with other dogs so if
