When the African Union Hybrid Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) deployed to Somalia in
March 2007, it did not possess resources/capabilities to wage an effective strategic
communications campaign. For the first 2½ years, AMISOM had virtually no media
presence whatsoever. To remedy this issue, in November 2009, the UN Support Office
for AMISOM (UNSOA) contracted a consortium of private firms that
