Week of March 23-29: Player – Sam Munger, Saint
Martin’s (P-SS, Everett, WA – Cascade) was selected the
MVP in the Cal State Stanislaus Tournament of Champions
as she led the Saints to six straight wins and the second
best record (6-1) in the 24-team event. Whether from the
batter’s box or the circle, she was spectacular. At the
plate she had 14 hits in 24 at bats, including two home
runs. She drove home eight, twice plating the gamewinner. Her RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave
SMU a 2-1 win Friday against Azusa Pacific. On Sunday in
the Silver Bracket championship game, her sixth inning
sacrifice fly snapped a 5-5 tie in a 6-5 win against
nationally fourth-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay. She
then went to the circle in the bottom of the inning and
retired the final five hitters to earn a save. She also had
three wins and a 0.83 ERA, allowing just four runs (three
earned) and 22 hits in 25 1/3 innings. Pitcher – Sammi
Cadwallader, Western Oregon (5-8, So, Toledo, OR) earned
a win as a starter against San Francisco State and as a
reliever with four scoreless innings in Sunday’s Consolation
championship game against Academy of Art. She also was
a tough-luck 2-1 loser Friday to Academy of Art and
finished the week with a 1.72 ERA allowing just five runs in
20 1/3 innings.
drew four walks … Western Washington’s lone loss during
the week came against Western Oregon as the Wolves
earned a split of a doubleheader with an 8-5 victory
Saturday. WOU’s key hit in that win was a two-run home
run by Kuehl extending a 6-5 lead to 8-5. In four games
including a sweep of Simon Fraser Sunday, Kuehl had eight
hits in 10 at bats, scored seven runs and drove in four.
Pitcher – Makinlee Sellevold, Western Washington (5-4,
Fr., Everett, WA - Cascade) posted four victories to
improve her season record to 19-7. She allowed 21 hits in
29 innings, walking nine and fanning 12. Sellevold, who
leads the GNAC in victories, finished the week with a 4-0
record and a 2.41 earned run average.
GNAC Miscellany
GNAC Championships: The GNAC will determine its
automatic berth for the NCAA National Championships
with a four-team double elimination tournament Apr. 30 –
May 2 at Yakima.
NCAA West Regional: Eight teams advance to the NCAA
Division II West Regional tournament that will be held at
two four-team sites May 7-10. The two sub-regional
winners will then play a best-of-three series May 15-16
with the winner advancing to the NCAA Elite 8 May 21-25
at Oklahoma City, Okla. The first regional poll, which will
determine the five at-large teams in the eight-team
tournament will be announced in mid-April.
Week of March 30-Apr. 5: Player – Bella Rovens, MSU
Billings (OF, 5-7, So., Sparks, NV) and Kailyn Campbell,
Central Washington (1B, 6-0, So., Duvall, WA - Cedarcrest)
led their respective offenses as the Yellowjackets
outscored the Wildcats 42-36 in a four-game series at
Billings. Rovens had eight hits in 17 at bats, including a
game-winning home run in the eighth inning of a 12-10
victory Friday, as the Yellowjackets rallied from a 9-1
deficit in the fifth. It was the first home run of the season
for Rovens, who ranks second in the conference in walks
with 20. Campbell drove in 15 runs in the four-game
series, slamming four home runs and batting .556 (10-of18). She also had a double and finished the trip with a
1.278 slugging average. On the season she has 46 RBI, 10
more than anyone else in the conference. Pitcher –
Jourdan Williams, Western Oregon (5-8, Sr., McMinnville,
OR)…. In a week that was dominated by hitters – 178 runs
were scored in 12 games (14.8 per game) – Williams had
one of the few standout pitching performances limiting
league-leading Saint Martin’s to a single-run and seven hits
in a 6-1 complete-game victory. Williams also led the
Wolves in batting with a .462 average (6-of-13) as WOU
split a pair of twin bills with Western Washington and
Saint Martin’s.

Week of April 6-12: Player – Alexie Levin, Western
Washington (OF-DH, 5-7, Jr., Everett, WA) and Destiny
Kuehl, Western Oregon (3B, 5-8, So., Portland, OR – David
Douglas) … Levin hit three home runs and drove in 11 runs
as the Vikings won five of six games, including a sweep of
first-place Saint Martin’s Sunday to move within one game
of the Saints in the conference standings. Levin had eight
hits, including a pair of doubles, in 17 at bats. She also
