Widows is a 2018 film directed by Steve McQueen from a screenplay by McQueen and Gillian Flynn . The plot, set in contemporary Chicago, is about a group of women and their ordeals and triumphs. They have nothing in common, except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities. Amid the distress, anxiety, troubles, and tensions and when things are tough, they take charge of their fate and deal with the grim circumstances. They plan a heist in order to pay back a crime boss. The film features an ensemble cast consisting of Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Jacki Weaver, Carrie Coon, Robert Duvall, and Liam Neeson and others. Widows was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2018, and released in the United States on November 16, by 20th Century Fox.
