SOCULTURES DECEMBER 2018 Celebrations Looking Back Looking Forward We celebrate New Year in so many different ways in different parts of the globe. How is it celebrated in your culture? Traditionally with family, friends or more like a party? I was born in Poland, and of course we celebrated New Years in many different ways. One New Year we would spend as a family, other New Year we would spend it with friends. If celebrated with friends, we would turn up the music, and wait for twelve to hit the clock. Grab champagne and enjoy each other’s company. If celebrated with family, we traditionally would sit down, and spend quality time with each other by talking, eating delicious food, and listening to music. Do people like to exchange cards, presents or sweets during these times? Would you like to share with us any memory of favorite card, gift, and event from the past? Unfortunately, I’ve never gotten a gift or a card for New Years. In our culture, we believe in a simple celebration among the loved ones. Do you have any experience of celebrating a New Year in completely, strange other country in a totally different culture? Ten years of my life I’ve spent in Poland and sixteen years I’ve spent here in the U.S. I’ve never celebrated New Years in completely strange country or in a totally different culture. Poland and America don’t differ much when it comes to celebrating New Years 54 | P a g e
