So Much Water Volume 2 Issue 1 | Page 46

In the world of fly fishing, it seems like everyone is an author or trying to be. In a world such as ours, it’s pretty easy to separate the wheat from the chaff. In the case of R.E. (Ralph) Long, the separation is easy to read.

I’ve read three of Ralph’s books, One Small Trout, The Telling of Waters and Tomorrow’s Fish and all I can say, Ralph quickly moved to the top of my favorite authors list. If I’m pressed for a reason why I like Ralph’s writing so much, I can sum it up easily. He’s a fly fisher and he writes about it. The difference between Ralph and most other fishing writers…he has the uncanny ability to actually put you right there on the water with him. That’s a skill most other writers lack. I’m a reader that enjoys letting stories take me to the scene of the crime so to speak and Ralph sparkles in that respect.

Ralph is a down to earth guy, the kind of guy you’d enjoy fishing with. I’ve gotten to know his waters and we’ve caught more than a few fish together. That’s saying a lot considering we’ve never met except through blog posts, emails and of course, his writing.
