1. Prep 2 schlappen feathers , Marry the feathers dual sides together with the tips even. Stroke back the barbs to create a gap for the thread at a point so you’ll have a 3 inch tail. Ty in the feather at the gap as shown in step1 DO NOT Trim the excess feather.

2. Lift the tag ends of the 2 feathers and move the thread forward. Keep the feathers together and wrap them around the hook shank, each turn just in front of the last. Use a pick to free any barbs before they become trapped. Continue wrapping several turns but stop before the feather’s shaft become too thick to wrap tightly around the hook shank. Secure with several turns of thread wrapping a few turns back over the barbs forcing them to lay back.

3. Ty in 5 or 6 strands of red crystal flash over the top allowing them to extend just past the tip of the tail.

4. Ty in a red marabou feather by the tip just in front of the schlappen feather. Wrap the marabou 4 to 5 turns, secure and trim the tag end. Use a few turns of thread back over the marabou to force the barbs to lay back. The ends of the marabou barbs should extend back about half the length of the tail.
