I’ve paddled many a canoe and kayak down a lot of rivers and I know enough that I can more or less take a canoe from the put-in to the take-out and seldom switch sides with the paddle. While all of that is fine and dandy, I would never call myself an expert, but I’ve picked up a paddle stroke here and there. All of which is next to worthless when your sitting in the middle seat of a drift boat with an oar in each hand for the first time. The application of any those canoe or kayak techniques will only put you in a place that you really don’t want to be in.
