WHO WAS JOE BROOKS?

Joe Brooks was one of the most influential sportsmenin American history. He was best known for his regular appearances with Curt Gowdy on ABCs’ American Sportsman in the 1960’s and 70’s, one of the most popular sports shows of all time and one of the very first television shows about fishing. Brooks had a major impact on modern fly fishing—not only through pioneering new techniques, new places and new species of fish but also through his prolific writing about the sport. Joe became one of the best-known writers of the 20th

century on fishing. Early on he wrote for Field & Stream, The Fisherman, True Fishing Annual, Fishing Waters of the World and The Salt Water Sportsman. He was soon

hired as the outdoor editor for The Baltimore Sun and soon after that he was writing for Outdoor Life, one of the most popular sport magazines even to this day.

Lefty Kreh, considered by many to be the best fly fisherman alive today and a protégé of Brooks, said that Brooks was a “true pioneer.”

“Joe changed our fly fishing world as no one else has,” he wrote in a foreword to Dan Sedgewick’s book, Joe Brooks on Fly Fishing. “If you are an avid flyfisherman

and under the age of 50, chances are you

have never heard of Joe Brooks, but you owe him a debt of gratitude. One of Joe’s greatest gifts to fly fishermen is that he opened up the world to all those who followed. Fly fishermen today jump on airplanes to test the waters of the upper Amazon Basin, the trout streams and lakes of New Zealand, and the distant atolls of the South Pacific. But no one dared or

thought of this until Joe opened up the doors.”

WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE FILM BE SEEN

The producers are crafting an aggressive distribution plan that will take the film to theatres and television networks around the world. In addition, the film will be made available for special screenings to assist and promote the work of fly fishing clubs, nonprofits preserving the sport of fly fishing, nonprofits working on conservation of water resources and other similar organizations. After first-run opportunities in theatres, TV and special screenings of the film will be made available on DVD and digital platforms such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.
