Lisa Ortiz Level Design « Creating Fear and Anticipation in Horror Games Present day horror games have utilized that it is important for all elements of a for gameplay and visual appeal. This common goal and direction in order for new technologies to improve their games breathes new life into the common horror tropes seen in most films and games. I wanted to discover exactly what elements in horror games frighten players in order to achieve a similar result in my artifact. I was drawn to this project because horror games have always left a very strong impact on me. Their terrifying gameplay and complex environments are unforgettable. In the creation of this project, I discovered 18 LEVEL DESIGN horror game to work in tandem toward a the gameplay to be frightening. I learned quite a bit about composition within a limited field of view and play space, as well as scripting in Unreal 4 by creating systems that allow for quick iterations.
