Be Thankful...
A trip into any store reminds us that the holidays are fast approaching – we've enjoyed Halloween, and soon enough Thanksgiving will be here, and then of course multiple December holidays.
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it’s all about gratitude for the wonderful blessings in our lives. I have a long gratitude list and it includes the following:
• Every volunteer who makes Juliette Low’s gift of Girl Scouting possible
by his or her selfless service to girls.
• Every staff member who dedicates their lives to ensuring that Juliette’s
dream for the Girl Scout Movement remains alive for as long as our
mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character remains
relevant – and I can’t imagine a day when this mission would not be
relevant!
• Every family who recognizes that there is no better program than Girl
Scouting to be their partner in helping their daughters become confident,
caring, and courageous young women.
• Every donor who chooses to invest in our mission because they recognize
that our communities are better and stronger because of the Girl Scouts!
My hope for each of us is that we don’t let the stress of getting ready for the holidays keep us from a focus on gratitude which brings such joy and peace.
Speaking of peace, by the time you read this, we will know the outcome
of the election which has been so polarizing. Therefore my second wish is that we support the will of the American people and work together to support our new President so that he or she can work across party lines on solutions for the many issues we face as a nation. We have such an opportunity to raise the next generation of female leaders to be strong
and unifying. We can help today’s young women learn how to be strong in her own beliefs while also being open and respectful to all points of view. We owe them and us no less. Thank you for all you do.
