A Girl Scout Legacy

F. Harriett Dever joined Girl Scouts 1936. Throughout her 81 years involved in

Girl Scouting in Rhode Island she attended Girl Scout camp as a camper, participated in the CIT program, became a camp counselor, volunteered as a troop leader, and served as President of the Girl Scouts Leaders Association.

Serving as a volunteer for decades was a hard habit to break and Harriett continued to generously give her time and talents as a volunteer at many organizations within the community including her church, the library in Providence, the Warwick Animal Shelter, and the Cranston Senior Center—

just to name a few!

Harriett’s giving nature went one step further when she decided to make a generous gift to GSSNE that will allow us to build a new cabin at Camp Hoffman in 2018. The cabin, to be called Devers Rest in her memory, will be utilized by girls during the summer camp season in addition to year round troop camping.

This wonderful addition to Hoffman will be a permanent reminder to us all of Harriett’s generous spirit, her dedication to sister Girl Scouts, and her devotion to the Rhode Island community as a whole.

Harriett recently passed on at the wonderful age of 93. While we will miss her kind and thoughtful heart, we know that her spirit lives on in Girl Scouting.

We thank you, Harriett.
