V.S. REALITY

RENO ROOKIE REALITY CHECK:

who are you renovating for?

Think about the needs of the person you are renovating for. If you are renovating to sell, research what buyers are looking for.

WATCH YOUR BUDGET:

You don't have t.v. producers or brand sponsors to give you money when you overspend.

ALWAYS BUY MORE:

Paint, tiles and other building materials to allow for potential breakage, cuts, spills etc.

Make sure you plan this when making your budget.

you can't do it all:

For anything structural, you will need to hire licensed professionals such as architects, engineers, builders and tradies.

IT takes longer

than 8 weeks:

For a whole house reno, depending on: type of reno, number of rooms and installs (e.g. bathroom plumbing).

don't follow trends:

What looks good on TV might not look good in your house.

Six months from now, the salmon-pink shag carpet you put throughout the entire house will be outdated, and new interior design trends will be made.

Unless you have the funds to keep up with the latest trends, stick to a style you know you'll commit to for the long haul.

expensive isn't

always best:

And cheaper isn't always clever.

Don't just go for a certain item because of the price tag. Do your research and compare your options to find the best quality and value for your money.

you don't have to do

it all in one go:

If money is tight, consider doing the reno in smaller stages.

Don't put yourself into debt by being impatient. Do what you can afford, for whatever is most urgent.
