FAME

On our WALL OF FAME this edition a 'Do It Yourself' project by

Ashley Grenon, who build a Star Wards Tie Fighter bookshelf.

Last Thursday was May The Fourth, the un-official Star Wars Day. For that occasion we decided to pick a intergalactic themed DIY project from Handmade by Ashley.

"Since the release of The Force Awakens, whenever I brainstorm new project ideas a Star Wars related idea always comes up. This time the project just so happened to be another Star Wars themed project; it’s a Tie Fighter bookshelf! I was able to make use of some scrap lumber I already owned. Paint was the only item I purchased for the project. Everything else I had on hand.

The first step is to cut out the Tie Fighter wing shape. These are shaped sorta like a hexagon. Use a jigsaw to cut out the shape. Draw a line from the midpoint of each side. Measure 2" from the corner and create a line from that point to the midpoint. Cut along the diagonal lines. Then drill pocket holes to join the boards. Create 3 pocket holes on the long side of one of the 1x8 boards. Create 2 pocket holes on the each short side of the 1x8 boards. Sand and prep the surface for painting. First paint the shelf with a base of gray paint. Use black paint for the the wing details and cockpit. Use painters tape to mark of the sections of the Tie Fighter. After, join the 1x8 boards at 90 degrees. Lastly, attach the shelf to each wing. For more pictures, check out the link in the extras tab.
