Preparing students for the change from high school to college is a daunting task . Fortunately , there are wise leaders in education today that can give guidance and suggestions .
1 . Productive Solitude . Take time to be alone and quiet . Take time to read . 2 . Restful Excellence . Refresh your soul with faith , family , and fun . Stop the craziness . Persistence indicates success .
3 . Read Reverently . Read real texts . Forget yourself when you read . Share what you read with others .
4 . Be grateful . Develop an attitude of gratitude . Be a person of grace and humility toward others .
5 . Dignity and pricelessness . There is divinity in reading and reflecting upon something that is not material , not purchased . You can ’ t put a price on it .

He identified productive solitude as one of those gifts , saying , “ In our time , the technology of interruption has outpaced the technology of concentration .” Further noting that “ any serious academic work and spiritual work ” requires “ being productive alone ,” he observed that the very structure of prayer and religious practice found in religious schools fosters such productive solitude .
Coleman also pointed out that depth is greater than breadth when determining what activities students should participate in while in high school . His opinion is that students should participate deeply in a few activities so they gain the experience and wisdom from doing and leading . Working closely with an advisor or mentor is priceless in building a relationship with someone who can guide and give a solid reference .
