The Man Behind the SAT Changes

You may have noticed that the SAT has changed a lot in the last couple of years . As the standardized test that shows colleges how prepared high school students are for the next step in life , these changes are extremely important for your students . The man behind these changes - David Coleman - really understands what today ’ s students need to know to succeed in college .
David is the ninth president of the College Board , a not-for-profit corporation that is best known for designing the SAT exam and the Advanced Placement test . It seems like he was born for this position . Born in Manhattan , New York City , NY in 1969 , David ’ s mother , Elizabeth Coleman , was the dean of The New School in Manhattan . The family moved to Vermont when Elizabeth became the president of Bennington College in 1987 . David ’ s entire life revolved around education .
Coleman graduated in 1991 with a B . A . in philosophy from Yale . Partly on the strength of his undergraduate volunteer activism , Coleman was the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship ( 1991 ) to take courses in English literature at University College , Oxford University . Coleman returned to New York City and co-founded The Grow Network , an internet-based consulting organization that analyzed test scores for states and large school districts . In 2001 , Coleman and Zimba ’ s Grow Network negotiated contracts directly with Pennsylvania , California , Nevada , New Mexico and New Jersey as well as New York City and Chicago public school districts .
In 2007 , Coleman co-founded Student Achievement Partners ( SAP ), a non-profit organization which researches and develops “ achievement based ” assessment standards . Funded in part by the Bill and Melinda
