Worcester and Droitwich Branch elled in a carrycot in the back of our estate car – can you imagine that now!!! I certainly can’t! But some things don’t change – the absolute delight to go shopping for maternity wear, nursery paraphernalia, and then the tiny clothes and toys! Sharing special times with the in-laws can be tricky and a fine balancing act but it is because we all want to be there for the first birthday, to share the tearing of the Christmas wrapping paper, dancing lessons, football games – and because we love our grandchildren. Back to my roller coaster now – gosh the responsibility of driving that precious little bundle for the first time (and of course all subsequent times), getting to grips with putting up and folding down the buggy, the emotional toil when things don’t go quite right, seeing and feeling the struggles of the new parents and having to stand back and let things happen. I feel very proud of my daughters and sons-in-law to see them growing into the role of parents themselves. Being a grandmother has enhanced my relationship with the girls and I thank them for giving me the chance to have a special relationship with their children. What do I love specially – reading, singing, jigsaws, gardening, cooking – and just spending time together. Worcester and Droitwich Branch Autumn 2015 34
