Worcester and Droitwich Branch I have noticed that most people don‟t write about the 3rd stage of labour – delivering the placenta, but I think its worth noting without going into too much detail. We wanted Oliver to receive as much blood as possible from the umbilical cord, so opted for a natural 3rd stage. Once the cord had stopped pulsing we waited about half an hour but nothing was happening, so went for the Syntometrine injection to speed up the process. I didn‟t mind, by this time I had had enough and just wanted to go and rest/cuddle my baby. At least Oliver had all the goodness from my placenta. My blood group is rhesus negative so we had to wait a day or so for our blood results before we could go home. Eve rything was fine so we took our gorgeous bundle of joy home and had a little chuckle at how lost he looked in his car seat. Of course he has now grown out of that one and into his forward facing. It‟s true what they say „they grow up so fast‟! Susanna Pitt Cotswold South Branch Worcester and Droitwich Branch Autumn 2015 32
