While many students
frequent Pirates Cove
in Avila Beach for a secluded beach day,
many are unaware of all it has to offer. Just north of the designated ‘Pirates
Cove’ lies a small sand beach next to a sea
cave and rock arch, easily accessible to
the public.

Hidden Hi
After arriving in the dirt parking lot
for Pirates Cove at the end of Cave
Landing Road, visitors will want to
find the path that is closest to the
water on the left side of the lot. This
is not the main trail that you would
take to get to the larger beach. As
you continue to walk closer to the
edge of the cliff, there are a series of
side trails. All of them end up connecting at one point of another, so
as long as you are making your way
west you should end up at the edge.
The trail spits you out on the edge
of a cliff that has a 20-foot rope
connected to it. You will need to
repel yourself down the side of the
cliff using the rope and various foot
holes that visitors have etched into
