Simple Ways to Be More Mindful

harder to achieve . How can you be “ more in the moment ” when you ’ re so busy you ’ ve started communicating entirely by emoji ? We totally understand . So we designed this list of super-easy ways you can turn the most common everyday activities into opportunities to be more mindful .
Take a tea break without the tea . Or a cigarette break without the cigarette . Or coffee without the coffee . You get the point . Step outside and consume your surroundings instead of a drink . Notice the rhythm of your breath and the beating of your heart .
When you ’ re standing in a queue , just stand in the queue . Don ’ t pull out your phone . Don ’ t complain to the person behind you . Let the clock tick as you inch forward . Practice enjoying the stillness of a slow-moving line . of your soap , hear the quiet fizz of frothy shampoo around your ears .
Eat , and only eat . Next time you sit down for a meal by yourself , don ’ t pull out a magazine or turn on the TV . Be completely present . Start by looking at the food on your plate , appreciating all of its colours and shapes . With every bite , notice the textures and the taste , and how your body is becoming fuller and increasingly satisfied .
For your next fabulous outing , vow not to post anything on social media . When you post a picture or tweet your thoughts in the midst of an event , you physically and mentally remove yourself from the actual experience . Even just planning to post later disrupts the present . You ’ re taking extra photos and thinking about captions . You ’ re overplanning your poses and worrying about love handles . Decide to resist .
Stop thinking in the shower . It ’ s so efficient to plan out the details of your day while going through the rote motions of bathing . Instead , focus on what you ’ re doing . Relish the water spilling over your skin , inhale deeply the scent
Do the thing you ’ re doing and nothing else . That , in a nutshell , is what all these moves entail . Practicing mindfulness can be a little harder than it sounds , but every moment you savour is worth it .
