EDITOR’S LETTER
N
ot once but twice this year I have
been mistaken for Nordic. I visited
Sweden a few months ago and
everyone who spoke to me assumed I was a
native so happily chatted away to me in
Swedish without giving it a second thought.
Although I’m not Swedish, or Danish, or
from anywhere in the Nordics, my pale skin
and blonde hair I’m sure are two of the
reasons for the mistaken identity. I’m a Fitz-
patrick skin type I. On the Fitzpatrick scale
of I to V, this is the fairest skin type on the
chart so it comes with all kinds of potential
skin concerns, the most common of which
is sun damage. My skin can burn in 15
degree ‘heat’ if I’m not wearing sunscreen
so it’s essential for me to keep re-applying
throughout the day. But is applying sun-
screen enough? We’ve delved into the
importance of antioxidants in many Skin
Health issues now, but this time we’ve gone
a step further. Our Beauty Editor, Danielle,
investigates how antioxidants work, which
ones we should be using, and how com-
bining them with sunscreen gives your skin
even more protection from UV damage.
For all you Fitzpatrick type IVs and Vs,
we’re exploring how you can prevent pig-
mentation, discolouration, and dark spots,
all common sun-related conditions for
darker skin tones. And all difficult to
manage while the sun shines.
I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Dr Ben
Johnson, Founder of Osmosis Skincare, a
holistic, results-driven suite of products that
uses natural ingredients to generate very
impressive results. From premature ageing,
sun damage, and uneven tone, there’s a
regime within Osmosis to suit you, and all
using naturally-derived ingredients. I am
loving the Replenish Antioxidant Repair
Serum! Find out which are Dr Johnson’s
favourite products on page 26.
Enjoy the rest of your summer. We’ll be back
in October, all set for our Christmas issue!
Happy reading!
