THE ANTI-AGING MAP

By Danielle Hadley

Getting older is something we , unfortunately , can ’ t avoid but how old we look is easier to control . As the number of candles on your cake increases every year , the skin ’ s resilience to the passage of time deteriorates due to unavoidable factors such as sun exposure , genetics and movement , showing up on the surface as wrinkles , sagging and uneven spots of pigmentation . However , there are some areas of the face and body that relinquish the fight against these signs of ageing quicker than others , and it is in these areas where you need to focus your time and skin care spending . Here ’ s what to look out for and the products to invest in .

Key Area : The Eyes Your eyes are the window to your soul and all that but , in a more pragmatic sense , they are the first area of the face to show any signs of tiredness and , indeed , ageing . Even if you aren ’ t that old . Or that tired . This is because the skin around the eyes is thinner than anywhere else on the face and , thanks to blinking , squinting and smiling , it struggles to maintain elasticity so depressions in the surface can quickly develop . Keeping the area hydrated is key but to prevent wrinkles , look for products that contain peptides and strengthening antioxidants , such as the DCL New World Collection Peptide Plus Eye Treatment . In some cases , accelerated signs of ageing around the eyes present slightly differently , in the form of droopy or slack eyelids . Again , due to constant movement , this area of the face gradually loses elasticity and the ability to bounce back into place after being stretched . Prevention is much better than cure here , as droopy eyelids can only really be fixed with surgery , so start using a targeted eyelid treatment , like the Hydropeptide Uplift Eye gel , as soon as you hit 30 . Those who have already passed this milestone should invest as soon as you finish reading this article !
Key Area : The Neck You ’ ve all seen those women : beautifully taut and smooth facially , but wrinkled and wobbly below the chin . Your neck will never keep any of your beauty secrets , so it ’ s important to focus on this area as early as possible . Ageing happens faster here due to two factors : constant movement and the environment . The neck is an area of the body that moves incredibly frequently during the day ; whether it ’ s tipping , tilting , twisting or turning , so the collagen proteins and elastin fibres quickly get broken down , resulting in skin that looks slack and crêpey . The skin here is usually uncovered too , and it is this exposure to the elements – namely sunlight – that wreaks the most havoc , causing further collagen destruction and sun damage . Luckily , the beauty industry is enjoying a resurgence in neck-focused formulas , with everything from masks to moisturisers offering relief from prematurely aged skin . Try the Skyn ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Neck Gels for a quick fix before a party , or the NIOD Neck Elasticity Catalyst to combat serious sagging .
Key Area : The Hands Cast your mind back a few years to when all anyone could talk about was Madonna ’ s hands . Yes , she had the face and body of a 20-year-old , but her uneven and wrinkly hands totally gave the game away . Your hands are in constant use and , like the neck , are always exposed to the
