NEVER LOOK
TIRED AGAIN
With These Six Easy Steps
By Shari Shallard
Raise your hand if you’ve heard this lately: “You
look tired! You doing okay?”
We know, we know. They’re just trying to show
concern. But we usually hear it as a criticism,
because, well, the “tired” look is rarely what we
were going for.
For some of us, we look tired because we are
tired. Jobs, kids, partners, hobbies, binge watch-
ing Game of Whatever: so many things stand
between us and our beds. For others, the tired
look is a little more genetic — kind of like RBF.
(That is, it’s not our fault and doesn’t reflect
how we feel on the inside, but strangers see us
and reach their own conclusions.)
Either way: we don’t have to be so tired, and
we certainly don’t have to look so tired. Let’s
talk about how.
Step 1. Get More Sleep
You’ve probably already heard the research
about the seriousness of sleep deprivation. So
we’ll just remind you that, along with diet and
exercise, getting around eight hours of sleep a
night is one of the three variables YOU can
control to improve your health and appearance.
Stop treating it as so dispensable! There’s no
reward for watching an entire Netflix series in
one night.
Step 2. Balance Booze with Water
As we dive into elsewhere in this issue of Skin
Health magazine, skincare specialists say there
are limits to how broadly water can impact your
skin. But most agree that not enough water
leaves skin looking drab and tired. Medical
aesthetician Lauren Blackledge, for example,
says that while water isn’t a fix-all, a late night
of drinking champagne often leaves her face
rougher, flaky and dull the next morning. So
remember to drink water before, between and
after those glasses (or shots or pints) to help
with morning-after skin.
Step 3. Spend More Time on Your Eyes
We’ve actually got a few moves for faking a
good night’s sleep. Try some (or all) of these:
Give your eyes some love. An eye mask can
do wonders for puffiness and dark circles. We
like the Exuviance Intensive Eye Treatment
Pads which make a noticeable difference to
tired skin.
