LAYERING
Our simple guide on what to apply, when to apply it, and in what order
S kin care is getting more and more complicated, but it doesn’t have to be this way. The number
of steps isn’t really important, it’s the order you apply your chosen products in and the way you
pat/rub/smear/smush them into your skin. To avoid the common pitfalls like overloading the
skin and adding too many ingredients into the mix, here is our easy-to-follow guide on building
and maintaining a complete skin care routine, from start to finish.
ON THE DAILY
When it comes to layering your skin care effec-
tively, the general rule is to apply products with
the lightest or thinnest consistency first, fol-
lowed by those with a thicker or more occlusive
texture at the end.
Step One: Cleanser (AM + PM)
The first and most important step in your
routine is cleansing aka the process of remov-
ing excess sebum, bacteria, impurities, pollutants
and make-up from the surface of the skin. Not
only will your skin feel clean and fresh, but it
will be properly prepared for any product that
you apply afterwards. Choose a texture that
compliments your skin type (gels, milks and
foams tend to work best for oilier skin, while
balms, creams and oils tend to suit dry skin)
and don’t forget to double cleanse in the
evening, especially if you wear make-up
