The number of steps isn’t really important, it’s the order you apply your chosen products in and the way you pat/rub/smear/smush them into your skin. To avoid the common pitfalls like overloading the skin and adding too many ingredients into the mix, here is our easy-to-follow guide on building and maintaining a complete skin care routine, from start to finish. ON THE DAILY When it comes to layering your skin care effec- tively, the general rule is to apply products with the lightest or thinnest consistency first, fol- lowed by those with a thicker or more occlusive texture at the end. Step One: Cleanser (AM + PM) The first and most important step in your routine is cleansing aka the process of remov- ing excess sebum, bacteria, impurities, pollutants and make-up from the surface of the skin. Not only will your skin feel clean and fresh, but it will be properly prepared for any product that you apply afterwards.
