YOUR IN-FLIGHT
BEAUTY ROUTINE

Y
ou, looking into the mirror in the
airport ladies room before the
flight: I’m ready! Hair is working great
today, face looks radiant and flawless, lips are
soft and kissable. Let’s do this.
You, looking into the airport ladies room mirror
on the other end, after the flight: What in the
world just happened?
Aeroplane air happened. Although the cabins
are pressurised, the levels are more like being in
mountain air than at sea-level air. This means,
among other things, that you’re taking in less
oxygen and that the air has significantly less
humidity than usual. For some, this means
really dry skin; for others, the sebaceous glands
go into overtime to compensate.
That air is also recycled, so it’s not the purest
stuff around. And there’s the food and drink
carts, filled with foods that aren’t fresh and
drinks that are more tempting than water.
(Another soda? Top up your coffee? Miniature
bottle of wine, anyone?) Your body gets nervous
about all those diuretics and retains water,
resulting in a puffy face. Your skin, as you
can see, is under assault from the outside and
the inside.
Coming prepared with the right skin care
products, however, can counter just about all
of this. Consider packing these five mess-free,
quick-acting tools in your carry-on, so you can
look and feel fabulous during and after the flight:
Skincity Essentials Hydrating Serum Oil Stick.
Moisturising in the form of a stick is perfect
for travel as there’s no potential for mess. Just
apply it directly onto your face (or other dry
spots), savour the lovely feeling of the serum-oil
texture, then pop the stick back in your bag.
Key ingredient Bisabolol reduces irritation and
nourishes the skin, plus this stick smells lovely
— which your seatmates will appreciate.
Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence. This
refreshing spritz is just what you need an hour
or so into your flight, to keep make-up from
getting dry and to keep your face happy. As
both a toner and serum, the combination of
Rose, Orange Blossom, and Lavender Flower
Nectars will allow you to land with skin that’s
calm, refreshed and hydrated.
Paula’s Choice Gentle Touch Cleansing Cloths.
When the sebaceous glands kick in and your
skin starts feeling oily, pull out these ultra-mild
cleansing wipes. They’re made with hydrating
Glycerin and Panthenol to keep skin supple, and
Oat, Chamomile and Pomegranate Extracts to
soothe. Being able to easily remove old make-up
and accumulated impurities make these a must-
pack for your next flight.
