PRODUCT REVIEW DERMALOGICA AGE Smart Rapid Reveal Peel By Danielle Hadley C hemical peels have always intrigued me. Of all the non-invasive cosmetic procedures, a peel is the one that I would consider partaking in above all others. I love anything that will exfoliate my skin and a chemical peel is as intensive as it gets. As I still haven’t plucked up the nerve to book in for an appointment, I decided to try the next best thing: Dermalogica’s AGE Smart Rapid Reveal Peel. Described as a maximum-strength, home-use exfoliant, this concentrated skin-resurfacer is separated into ten individual vials to provide you with the perfect dosage per use. Inside is a clear, watery liquid that contains a unique com- bination of phyto-active AHA extracts, Lactic Acid and fermented plant enzymes, to dissolve the bonds holding dead cells onto the surface of the skin in a matter of minutes. Unlike your standard scrub or daily acid toner, this treatment requires a little bit of thought to see the best results. First, you need to use it every night for three consecutive nights. It should then be used once a week for the remaining seven weeks before the course can be completed. It needs to be applied to clean skin and left for up to seven minutes before rinsing away with cold water. So that’s what I did. I won’t lie, this stuff tingles. It tingles so much that my face gets hot and, after around five minutes, I start to count down the seconds until I can wash it off, but what a difference this makes to the skin! After using for the recom- mended three nights, I received multiple compliments and questions from friends and family who felt compelled to tell me how clear, smooth and healthy my skin looked. As I con- tinued with the programme, by week six, I really started to notice an improvement in the texture of my skin. Regular breakouts can often mean my skin looks less than baby smooth but this exfoliator has significantly smoothed things out; even in harsh light, I don’t worry about my skin texture anymore. After using my ninth tube, the condition of my complexion is almost totally different to how it was before. Red marks, blemishes and bumps are few and far between, plus I’ve noticed that my make-up applies much easier than it did before. I also don’t seem to be experiencing any dry patches or flakiness, side effects I have come to expect with strong resur- facing products. It's safe to say I’m a fan. Other things to note include the packaging choice, which makes me feel a little bit like a chemist, and the fact that no product goes unused. Yes, the doses are gen- erous, but there isn’t so much product in each vial that you end up rinsing half of it down the drain. The more you use it, the less intensive it feels on the skin but, in my expe- rience, there is always a tingle which reas- sures me that the exfoliator is still doing its job. With my new found complexion and confi- dence, I think I’m ready to take the next step and make that chemical peel appointment. ISSUE #11 | 2019 | SkinHealthMagazine.com 36
