Exchange of Ideas

Wednesday , 5 October , 2016 Venue : North Metropolitan TAFE

The Adult Migrant English Program ( AMEP ) at North Metropolitan TAFE welcomed stakeholders to an Industry event at the college campus in Leederville on Wednesday 5 October 2016 .

The purpose was to bring like-minded people together to collaborate on topics relating to migration . Over 100 guests attended including those from state government , migrant organisations and local industry .
Richard Flack , AMEP Manager formally opened the event by welcoming guests to the ‘ exchange of ideas ’ forum and imparting information including the latest migration figures across Australia .
Industry guest speaker Tommy Adebayo , Director / Editor-in-Chief of Skilled Migrant Professionals Magazine delivered an inspiring presentation about how he came to live in Australia as a migrant and the challenges and opportunities that have shaped him today . He spoke in depth about how migrants can work towards employment in Australia , stating education and self-motivation as important components to success .
AMEP Lecturers Kathy Seal , Simon Smith and Louisa Kquiku gave detailed presentations on key areas in the program , before Pari Tran an AMEP and TAFE client stood in front of the audience and delivered an eloquent speech about her life journey which was well received .
After a short break , guests worked in groups to share ideas on how best to improve services for new migrants . AMEP clients were invited to participate in discussions . The feedback from attendees generated a wealth of material to be included in the program planning for 2017 . The event also provided the perfect opportunity for guests to catch up and network with others on the day .
The AMEP is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training and is a settlement English program for newly arrived migrants and refugees . The program has helped many migrants and refugees to settle in Australia for more than 60 years .
