Hall of Famer Steve “ Salba ” Alba accepted Smallwood ’ s invitation when he was in D . C . for a skateboarding festival last year . Salba was excited to skate in Maryland , the Land of Link Wray , as he calls it . “ Once we got our passes , we went straight to the concrete jungle of suburbia looking for empty swimming pools , my main mission in life ,” Salba said . “ Farmboy [ Tony Farmer ] and my kid , Jesse , showed up , and that is always a pleasure to skate with your son and best friend who just so happens to love pools as much as I do .”
Before visiting , Salba requested photos for “ intel ,” of which Smallwood has thousands . Smallwood used to scout locations and photograph models in exotic locales for National Geographic . Now his cover shots are his passport into forbidden places .
