Where next? Universities offer a range of English Language and English Literature courses as well as combined Language and Literature courses. As the degree is non-vocational it can be transferred to a range of careers, most typically media, journalism, publishing, advertising, marketing, law, public sector, human resources, business and finance, public relations, social work, teaching, academia, tourism and events management. WHAT WILL I STUDY? 13 texts: Novels, Poetry, Drama and Non-Fiction in English and including at least 4 in translation, covering three periods and four places. Areas of exploration: Readers, writers and texts: the nature of literature Time and Space: contexts of production and reception Intertextuality: connecting diverse texts, traditions, creators and ideas. HOW IS THE COURSE ASSESSED? Paper 1 (30%) - Guided analysis of unseen texts of any genre Standard Level: L 1 extract Higher Level: 2 extracts Paper 2 (25%) Literary Comparative Essay Individual Oral Assessment (20%) with a focus on how two different texts approach one same global issue.
