In the end, Pete decided to focus on surfing for fun rather than surfing for points. “The older I get, the less competitive I get, so I’m just really happy to be able to do what I love for a living.” Tips for getting your feet wet by Pete Devries so I’m just really happy to be able to do what I love for a living.” His love of surfing has also flowed into his family life: Although it may be too early to tell, his young son, Asher, might follow in his footsteps. “My wife Lisa actually took him surfing yesterday!” Pete says. “I’m not going to put any pressure on him, but my wife and I both love to surf, so it would definitely be great if he was into it.” Although he’s grateful to stand in the spotlight of a podium or a magazine cover, Pete knows exactly where he wants to be.
