RIGHTEOUS
ADVENTURE
BY GEORGE ZICARELLI
Nestled between the shores of Lake Huron and
Georgian Bay is one of Canada’s many topographical
marvels — the Bruce Peninsula. Although this idyllic
spot in Bruce County is home to scenic limestone
caves, beaches, hiking trails that extend for hundreds of
kilometres and some of the brightest night skies in all of
Ontario, it remains a largely hidden gem.
The average bystander may only know of Bruce County
by way of the region’s most famous resident, Wiarton
Willie, the groundhog whose shadow becomes a national
talking point every February 2nd. But the understated
nature of Bruce County is the perfect setting for a sport
that is immensely popular with participants, but largely
unknown to others.
