BTEC Health and Social Care offers a broad basis of study for the health and social care sector. It is
a highly successful course which will stretch students and give them a varied insight into the world
of health and social care and the importance of thought when dealing with vulnerable individuals.
BTEC is different from A level courses because it is more vocational in approach developing
skills as well as knowledge. It’s an ideal course for students who are more adept at continuous
assessment (coursework) as there are no external examinations.
What will I study? Co-curricular activities Where might it lead?
BTEC Health and Social Care
Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to
one A level). Work experience is a great way of
making you aware of the demands
and benefits of working in health
and social care and we strongly
recommend that all students engage
in at least one work placement over
the duration of the course. Where
possible, we offer trips to university
nursing departments or other care
settings. The college also welcomes
visiting guest speakers from a variety
of health and social care professions. BTEC Health and Social Care
courses when combined with the
correct A level or BTEC programme,
offers an excellent route to university
for a variety of degrees. Students
have progressed onto higher study
or employment within nursing,
midwifery, primary education, social
work, plus many other areas where
interaction with the pubic is a large
part of the job.
Within this you will study 6 units of
work, 3 in the first year and 3 in the
second year: Communication and
values, equality and diversity, human
growth and development, health
and safety in care amongst other
topics.
