BTEC Health and Social Care offers a broad basis of study for the health and social care sector . The course covers a range of topics from examining the skills needed in the care profession to a deeper understanding of biological issues . BTEC is more vocational in approach , and is ideal for students more adept at continuous assessment ( coursework ) as there are no external examinations .
What will I study ? There are two BTEC options :
1 . BTEC Health and Social Care Subsidiary Diploma ( equivalent to one A level )
2 . BTEC Health and Social Care Diploma ( equivalent to two A levels )
Each course covers a variety of modules including : an analysis of the caring profession , equality and diversity in the caring profession and the rights of individuals in care , through to a biological analysis of life stages and health implications .
For the Diploma you will be required to take part in a work experience programme during your time of study . This will give you rich experience of opportunities in various care sectors , as well as information for your coursework .
Co – curricular activities
Work experience is a great way of making you aware of the demands and benefits of working in health and social care . Where possible , we offer trips to university nursing departments or other care settings . The college also welcomes visiting guest speakers from a variety of health and social care professions .
Where might it lead ?
BTEC Health and Social Care courses when combined with A levels , offer an excellent route to university for a variety of degrees . These include midwifery , paramedicine , social work , speech and language therapy and nursing amongst others . Alternatively , students may gain employment directly from College .
