Summary of Content Suggested Preparation for September
Investigating Practitioners’ Work Students will be encouraged to explore a broad range
of genres and styles within performing arts. In order to
develop a good understanding of the demands of
a performer, we strongly recommend watching as many
live performances as possible. We host a broad range of
performances throughout the year including our College
production and annual BTEC Performing Arts showcase –
see the Performing Arts brochure for more information.
In addition, visiting local thea tres such as Home,
The Lowry and The Everyman as well as the Arts Centre
at Edge Hill University and Manchester Metropolitan
University will develop knowledge of contemporary
performance styles.
Students will research and explore the work of two
performing arts practitioners. They must use critical
analysis skills and contextual understanding in a
controlled written assessment.
Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance
Students will explore technical performance skills with a
focus on developing skills and techniques in at least two
performance styles.
Group Performance Workshop
Students will explore and integrate creative, physical and
vocal skills and techniques, working collaboratively to
create a performance in response to a given stimulus.
Storytelling
Learners will explore traditional stories and develop
techniques of performing existing text to a child
audience.
